Post #2-The Ethical Dilemma of Nestlé Water

    After browsing the web site of Nestlé Waters North America (BlueTriton Brands), the company is part of the Nestlé Waters North America business unit. Founded in 1976, in the United States, Nestle/BlueTriton owns a well-known brand in North America. These include Arrowhead, Deer Park, Ice Mountain, Poland Spring, Pure Life, Zephyrhills and many more. Nestlé/BlueTriton noted that the company is committed to environmentally sustainable water management and helps ensure the well-being of people and the long-term prosperity of local communities. As shown in the following video (Provide by Nestlé/BlueTriton official account), the company focuses on the sustainable use of water resources and contributes to the community and the environment.

    Coincidentally, Nestlé/BlueTriton has similar violations in many states, "[a]s for the amount of water the company bottles each year, it barely registers in the scope of what's used in the state each year". (Boyce, 2021 ) such as Colorado, California, Florida, and Michigan, etc. Despite the local backlash, Nestlé/BlueTriton was able to collect water in these areas.Regardless of whether there are drought or ecological problems in the local area, Nestlé/BlueTriton has illegal operations.

  1. I think it is funny how Nestle claims in their video how we all share this planet and we need to use water responsibly while still saving the planet when they are doing the opposite. Actions speak louder than words and based off of what Nestle is doing they don't care if they are cutting off water supply to certain areas of people and ecosystems, all they want is a profit.

    I am really glad that you shared the video in this post because it really gives you a visual to how stark the difference between what Nestle is saying and what they are doing actually is. You get to see the animals swimming around in water and they are visually showing that what they are doing is great when they are actually just eliminating those ecosystems and populations of animals.

    1. Yes, one of the things that Nestlé Water/BlueTriton continues to do I don't think they are doing what they call to save the planet and the ecosystem, on the contrary, what the company is doing is destroying that good ecosystem and not doing anything. Uncontrolled water intake.
      On the other hand, I do not think many consumers know that these brands they've been drinking for years are owned by Nestlé. In other words, Nestle Company clearly marked their logo on some products, but after acquiring these well-known companies, they did not clearly print their logo on it. I think it's also a cover for Nestlé Waters/BlueTriton's existing bad image for their brand.

I think what they said is very responsible "committed to environmentally sustainable water management and helps ensure the well-being of people and the long-term prosperity of local communities". But they do the exact opposite. As well as in the case of water bottle, they also stated that "Most water bottles avoid landfill sites and are recycled", but they are reported that many of their bottles end up in the solid-waste stream, and that most of their bottles are not recycled--Kaiwen Liu

    1. I agree with you that Nestlé's actions are contrary to their promises. This is an irony for both consumers and Nestlé/BlueTriton, because what the company is doing can deceive consumers in a sense. On the other hand, from an ethical point of view, Nestlé's deceptive behavior is also unethical.

  3. It is very ironic that Nestle produced this ad because they are portraying themselves as an ethical and green company but in truth, it is the opposite. There are no scientific reports or any evidence that proves the claims in Nestle's video and it only to trick consumers. The video says "by monitoring and withdrawing water sustainably, so that we never take more than nature provides" but in the case of California, this is not true. California doesn't get much rainfall and yet Nestle is still pumping out millions of gallons and selling for profit, contradicting their statements in the video.

    1. I think you made a good point that Nestlé/BlueTriton did not come up with a scientific report or any evidence to support what they described in their promotional video. For consumers, Nestlé is doing this to shape its own image in front of the public and to escape the fact that what they are doing is actually unethical. For a company, it's spending a portion of its money on advertising and covering up its unethical behavior, and then continuing to make money by doing unethical behavior.

  4. It is clear from the video that Nestle's stated vision and beliefs are completely inconsistent with what they are doing now. What Nestle is doing is very unethical and very ironic. I highly approve of everyone's response.

    1. I agree with you that what Nestlé did compared to the video is very ironic. Similarly, we can see from the video released by Nestlé/BlueTriton that Nestlé is only creating its own emphasis on sustainable development. This kind of public relations makes consumers, or people who see it will feel more ironic.
